JLG Announces Lighter, Smarter & More Maneuverable SkyTrak 6034 & 6042 Telehandlers
Posted On: July 6, 2023
Lift equipment manufacturer JLG recently announced two newly redesigned SkyTrak telehandlers, the 6034 and 6042, with upgraded technology and improved performance and maneuverability to master demanding jobsites. The telehandlers have a maximum lift capacity of 6,000 pounds (2,721 kilograms) and structural upgrades as well as improved functionality, technology, and serviceability.
Improved Build
JLG indicates that the SkyTrak 6034 is set to replace the SkyTrak 6036. It has an operating weight of 14,500 lbs (6,577 kg) and has an optimized frame that allows as many as three 6034s to be hauled on a single flatbed trailer while a single telehandler can be transported with a standard pickup and trailer. The 6034 has a lift height of 34.4 feet (10.5 meters) and a forward reach of 23.16 ft (7.1 m).
The 6042 has undergone a complete redesign and has a 19,100-lb (8,663-kg) operating weight. JLG says two 6042s can be hauled on a single trailer. The telehandler has a 42.33-ft (12.9-m) lift height and a forward reach of 29.5 ft (9 m).
Both models have 2-wheel, 4-wheel, and 4-wheel crab steering modes, are 95 inches (2,413 millimeters) wide, and have smaller tires for increased maneuverability. Air conditioning is an available option in the updated cab.
Enhanced Functionality
Both the 6034 and the 6042 are powered by 2.9-liter, 74-horsepower (55-kilowatt) Deutz diesel engines that don’t require diesel exhaust fluid. Both also have hydrostatic transmissions for enhanced control and an inching functionality that lets operators deploy the boom at high speed without shifting into neutral, allowing them to move materials more quickly at height.
The new models are controlled using a single electric-over-hydraulic joystick that includes an auxiliary hydraulic function and attachment tilt. The hydraulic connections are on the side of the boom head for more efficient attachment changes.
Advanced Technology
A new advanced control system provides more options such as load stability indication, seatbelt engagement and operator presence, and improved diagnostics. The cab’s larger LCD display offers more data and larger, single-page load charts. Optional systems include a multi-camera backup system, which uses side and rear cameras and a tri-view monitor. The optional reverse sensing system will deploy an audible alarm to alert operators to a rear obstruction.
“Understanding the demands and challenges crews face on work sites day after day, we redesigned the all-new 6034 and 6042 models with features and capabilities directly inspired by the needs of those who need them most,” says JLG Senior Product Manager – Telehandlers, John Boehme. “These updated models deliver our customers’ most requested features, with zero sacrifice, proving yet again why SkyTrak is North America's No. 1 bestselling telehandler line.”
