Since 1979, Morbark has been selling and refining Eeger Beever wood and brush chippers in a range of sizes and capacities. The product line offers medium- to heavy-duty drum models and a couple of disc chipper options. Many Eeger Beevers are available as either towable or tracked models powered by gasoline or Tier 4 Final diesel engines.
A few days ago, we offered some helpful tips on how to choose the right Morbark large-capacity drum brush chipper. Today we’ll look at the manufacturer’s medium-duty models, and stay tuned for a follow-up post in a few days where we discuss Morbark disc chippers.
Eeger Beever 1821
With a 15-inch (381-millimeter) chipping capacity, the Eeger Beever 1821 drum chipper comes on a sturdy, 6-in. (152-mm) steel channel frame or on a Caterpillar 305 undercarriage with 15.75-in. (400-mm) rubber tracks. Its 30-in. (762-mm)-diameter drum, 18- by 20.5-in (457- by 521-mm) throat opening, and Variable Force hydraulic down pressure system help it chew up and spit out trees up to 18 in. (457 mm) in diameter. The 140- to 174-horsepower (104- to 130-kilowatt) chipper has a gross weight of 8,900 to 10,200 lbs (4,037 to 4,627 kg).
Eeger Beever 1621X
Unlike its brethren, the Eeger Beever 1621X isn’t named for its throat opening, which is 18 by 20.5 in. (457 by 521 mm) in size. A scaled-down version of the 1821, the 1621X features a 15-in. (381-mm) chipping capacity and a 30-in. (762-mm) drum diameter. It uses springs to supply down pressure instead of hydraulics. The 1621X also has a narrower range of gas or diesel engine options from 140 to 147 HP (104 to 110 kW), and there is no self-propelled, tracked option. This Morbark chipper has an 8,900- to 10,200-lb (4,037- to 4,627-kg) gross weight, the TorqMax top feed wheel compression system, and a chassis fully supported by channel steel.
Eeger Beever 1415
Maneuverable and compact, the pintle-hitch 1415 has a two-speed, rubber-tracked option “for right-of-way clearing, highway clean-ups, and hard-to-reach areas requiring a self-propelled unit for material access,” Morbark says. Able to digest 12-in. (305-mm) timber with its 21.4-in. (543-mm)-diameter drum, this 48- to 145-HP (36- to 108-kW) Eeger Beever can be ordered with the Morbark ZeroClutch feature with certain engines. ZeroClutch keeps the clutch from engaging when material is stuck between the feed wheel and drum, or when the discharge chute is clogged. The 1415’s direct-drive dual feed wheels and end cap ripper teeth are designed to keep the feed wheel shaft from getting wrapped up in vines or stringy material. The 5,700-lb (2,586-kg) chipper uses the spring-assisted Hydra-Lift down pressure system to tackle problematic limbs. Like many other Eeger Beevers, the 1415 has a 360-degree manual crank swivel discharge.
Eeger Beever 1215
Morbark’s smallest Eeger Beever drum chipper is the 1215 with a 21.4-in. (543-mm)-diameter, two-knife drum. It has a 12- by 15-in. (305- by 381-mm) throat opening, a 12-in. (305-mm) chipping capacity, and a 5,200-lb (2,359-kg) gross weight. Gas and diesel engine options range from 48 to 75 HP (36 to 56 kW), and some are available with Morbark ZeroClutch. Like many other Eeger Beever models, the machine uses a dual-sided air impeller to blow out fibrous, light, and leafy material from its manual swivel discharge. The 1215 uses Morbark’s TorqMax single-top feed wheel system with additional down pressure provided by springs. The pintle-hitch, tow-behind chipper has an extendable drawbar to accommodate various tow vehicles. A hydraulic tank clean-out cover, shut-off valve, and magnetic drain plug come standard.
