Overview
This Peterbilt Model 548 Medium Duty is configured as a construction dump truck, built for on/off-highway hauling of construction materials with a 144" long, 120" high end dump body.
Engine & Drivetrain
Powered by a PACCAR PX-9 engine rated 330 HP (governed 2,200 RPM) with 1,000 lb-ft of torque at 1,200 RPM, built to 2024 emissions standards with EMUX electronics architecture. Paired with an Allison 3000 RDS-P Rugged Duty Series automatic transmission, Gen 6, in a 6-speed close-ratio configuration with a TC-421 torque converter, dash-mounted push-button shifter, and neutral-at-stop enabled. Driveline is a 1710 HD unit with one midship bearing. PTO provisions include a Chelsea PTO with a dash-mounted, single-acting electric-over-hydraulic control and LH-mounted trans PTO provisions, plus an automatic transmission oil cooler. Typical operating speed is set at 65 MPH, with the powertrain optimized for vocational/heavy-GCWR performance. Additional engine equipment includes a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator, PACCAR 12V starter, four PACCAR premium 12V dual-purpose batteries (2,920 CCA) with a low-voltage disconnect system, variable-speed belt-driven fan clutch, 18.7 CFM air compressor, VGT exhaust brake, high-efficiency cooling system, single engine-mounted air cleaner, and a single right-hand side-of-cab exhaust with under-cab DPF/SCR (single module), curved-tip standpipe, and an 18" chrome standpipe with clear coat. A 110–120V immersion-type block heater and 12V-heated fuel filter are also equipped.
Chassis & Axles
Front axle is a PACCAR FX-20 rated 20,000 lbs with a 4" drop, wide-track configuration, and gusseted cam brackets, riding on taper leaf springs with shocks; steering is a Sheppard HD94 dual-gear power steering system with a frame-mounted reservoir and cooler. Rear axle is a Dana Spicer S26-190 rated 26,000 lbs with a 6.14 ratio, wide-track single and tandem drive configuration, gusseted cam brackets, high-entry setup, and a single-drive differential lock with speed interlock. GAWR is 20,000 lbs front / 26,000 lbs rear, with a 46,000 lb GVWR and 46,000 lb GCW. Wheelbase measures 166", with FAX/BOC at 69.5", cab/axle at 96.5", and cab/EOF at 159.3"; maximum grade rating is 6%. The frame consists of 10-3/4" steel rails (3/8" thickness) to 354", zinc-coated for anti-corrosion protection, with aluminum frame rail crossmembers, an HD 5-piece crossmember at BOC, 3-piece suspension crossmembers, a 24" bumper extension, and a square end-of-frame configured for a body-builder-installed crossmember. Braking includes Bendix air cam drum brakes (16.5x6 front, 16.5x7 rear) with heavy-duty drums and cam bushings on the drive axles, reinforced rear brake camshafts, upsized parking brakes, an SBM valve, and a 4S4M anti-lock braking system; all axles use synthetic lubricant. A 60-gallon D-shaped aluminum fuel tank is mounted left-hand under cab with a non-slip step and polished stainless steel straps, alongside a small (14-gallon) DEF tank with a polished stainless steel cover and a DEF-to-fuel ratio between 1:1 and 2:1. Air system equipment includes a Bendix AD-HF EP air dryer with heater, coalescing filter and extended purge, aluminum painted air tanks with pull cords, nylon chassis hose, a self-returning dash-mounted brake hand valve, and a 7-way AE electrical connection at the end of frame.
