Founded in Gwinner, North Dakota, in 1947 by Edward Gideon "E.G." Melroe as the Melroe Manufacturing Company, Bobcat introduced the first compact loader, the M60, in 1958. The self-propelled loader has been credited with kick-starting the compact equipment industry. In 2014, Bobcat produced its 1 millionth Bobcat loader.
