    About Stationary Log Loaders

A stationary log loader can be mounted on a concrete or steel pedestal for permanent or long-term use at a designated location instead of out in the field. Tree care and landscaping companies use them to unload fallen trees, pruned limbs, and stumps from a trailer or truck and feed them into a tub grinder, horizontal grinder, wood chipper, or delimber.

Stationary log loaders use a hydraulic boom with a log grapple to grab and move logs into position. In this way, they are similar to their mobile log loader cousins, such as wheel, track, truck-mounted, and trailer-mounted models. A grapple bucket can be used to load trailers with bags of mulch, wood chips, rocks, and other hardscape materials.

Contractors may use log loaders to handle trees they remove during lot-clearing operations and site preparation. Stationary log loaders can help with debris and trash clearing operations, jobsite preparation, and cable logging.

Log loaders can use a variety of booms and grapples, making them useful as knuckle boom loaders, crane loaders, forklift loaders, fixed-heel or live-heel boom loaders, and “butt-n-top” loaders, to name a few examples. Some loader grapples are designed to handle one log at a time, while others can lift multiple logs simultaneously (bunching).

    Cab Configurations

A stationary log loader may have a cab or operator’s station on its rotating platform with standard or optional heat and air conditioning. Other log loader models have no cab but come with a remote control and electric-over-hydraulic controls the operator can use from a better vantage point nearby.

    Stationary Log Loader Power Units

Like other types of log loaders, many stationary models get power for their boom hydraulics from a diesel engine. However, many landscapers and tree care providers prefer to take advantage of the loader’s fixed location and buy an electric model that runs on site power instead. Popular models include the Barko 295-SE-ERS and 595-SE-ERS and the Rotobec ELITE 910 SM.

Some log loaders are equipped with load-sensing hydraulics, which can improve energy efficiency by matching power output to the task at hand.

The power unit containing the log loader’s engine or motor and its hydraulics pump may be onboard or remote, meaning a short distance away. Loaders with an onboard power unit can typically rotate farther and take up less space, while those with a power unit on the ground offer a more comfortable cab, not to mention easier access for maintenance.

    Power Ratings & Lift Capacities

Stationary log loaders come in a variety of power ratings and lift capacities. One popular model, the Tigercat 234B, can lift 12,500 pounds (5,670 kilograms). It can lift loads as high as 25 feet (7.6 meters) and has a maximum reach of 32 ft (9.75 m). The loader is compatible with Tigercat attachments, including LG4053 and LG5057 grapples, and is powered by a 168-horsepower (125-kilowatt) Tigercat FPT engine that’s compliant with the EPA’s Tier 4f emission standard.

    Stationary Log Loader Benefits

Stationary log loaders offer several advantages. These include:

    • Increased efficiency - Stationary loaders can handle large volumes of logs quickly and consistently to improve overall operational efficiency.
    • Precision placement - The fixed position of a stationary model allows for accurate, repeatable placement of the load.
    • Higher lifting capacity - Stationary models often have greater lifting capacities than mobile loaders, allowing them to handle heavier logs and loads.
    • Stability - The steel or concrete pedestal mount of a stationary log loader gives it a firmer foundation than even a model on tracks.
    • Less maintenance - With fewer moving parts and no need for a drive system, stationary log loaders have lower maintenance requirements and costs than mobile units.
    • Reduced ground damage - Unlike mobile log loaders, which disrupt and compact the soil as they move, stationary loaders stay in one place after mounting.
    • Safety - Another advantage of a stationary log loader’s fixed position is a lower risk of accidents with one less piece of heavy equipment moving around a busy site.
    • Comfort - The owner of a stationary loader with a remote control instead of a cab can provide a quieter, more comfortable working environment for the operator with excellent visibility.
    • Space efficiency - A stationary loader can be mounted in confined spaces inaccessible to a loader on wheels or tracks.
    • Consistent performance - Stationary loaders provide reliable, consistent performance day after day without the need to spend time setting them up in new locations.
