    About Water Tank Trucks

Water tank trucks are specialized vehicles equipped with tanks to transport and distribute water in various industries. For landscaping and tree care operations, these trucks aid in situations when there is no access to a hydrant or other water supply.

    International MV Water Tank Truck

Many mobile watering services use tank trucks to water trees, shrubs, and other landscaping vegetation, especially in hot or drought-prone areas. Professionals in these areas also commonly use water tank trucks for firefighting and prevention. Thus, typically includes dampening dry brush and deadfalls in the path of wildfires to help contain the blaze’s spread.

Water trucks can also be used to fill water features such as fountains, pools, and artificial waterfall systems. On larger job sites, landscaping professionals use water tank trucks for dust suppression and soil compaction. At the end of a job, trucks with pressure wash attachments help clean away remaining dust and debris.

    Water Tank Truck Features

Truck-mounted water tanks come in aluminum, steel, or plastic varieties with or without an internal coating. The tanks typically have multiple compartments or baffles to prevent the load from shifting dangerously during transport.

A tank truck’s pressurization system typically includes an external water pump, a self-contained pump engine, or a hydraulic drive system. Depending on the model and its intended use cases, a water tank truck may include front or rear spray bars; front, side, or rear spray heads; a water jet or water cannon; or spray nozzles to efficiently dispense water.

To control the flow of water, these trucks have manual or pneumatic air valves. Trucks with water hoses may include reels with automatic, manual, or spring-loaded rewinding mechanisms to stow the hoses for travel.

    Water Tank Truck Capacities

New and used water tank trucks are often categorized according to their tank capacity and truck size. As with other tank truck varieties, many fall into the medium-duty or heavy-duty categories. Gross vehicle weights (GVWs) typically range from 14,000 pounds (6,350 kilograms) to more than 26,000 lbs (11,793 kg).

Heavy-duty water tank trucks often have 4,000-gallon (15,000-liter) or higher water tank capacities. Medium-duty models generally have tanks with capacities of around 2,000 gal (7,500 L).

On standard models, operations fill the tank through a refilling lid, fill dome, or fill pipes. Some brands manufacture self-loading water tanks. Whether it’s a manual or self-filling model, tank trucks easily pump water from ditches, lakes, and ponds to distribute water where it’s needed. The tanks typically drain via gravity dump or a quick dump system for faster unloading.
