About Landscape Trucks
Hauling equipment and/or organic materials to and from a jobsite is an integral part of the landscaping, groundskeeping, lawn care, and tree care businesses.

The multitude of tasks landscapers and lawn care professionals perform requires a range of special tools, machinery, and materials. These include mowers, trimmers, pole saws, loppers, pruning tools, mulch, topsoil, fertilizer, lawn and leaf refuse bags, and more. Having the right truck to move them is crucial to a landscaper’s success.
Types Of Landscape Trucks
Landscape trucks come in a variety of sizes with bodies made for hauling equipment or bulk materials. These trucks commonly have a length of 12 to 16 feet (3.6 to 4.8 meters) and a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) somewhere between 12,000 and 19,500 pounds (5,400 to 8,850 kilograms) to give landscapers plenty of options when moving between jobs. Many landscapers also employ pickups for carrying smaller tools, pulling wood chippers, and towing utility or light-duty landscaping trailers.
Trucks with aluminum or steel landscaping dump bodies can transport and unload dirt, wood chips, gravel, and other materials. A truck with a boom can offload paving stones and landscape rocks or use a grapple to load organic debris and bags of material to haul away.
Other Truck Options For Landscape Pros
For moving equipment, flatbed trucks and stake trucks are also popular options, especially when equipped with ramp gates (also known as “dovetails” and “beavertails”) to quickly load and unload zero-turn mowers, trim mowers, stump grinders, and other machines on wheels. For items that require protection from the weather, a box truck with a dry van body is a good option, as is a stake bed or dump truck with an electric roll tarp.
