How To Choose The Right Morbark Eeger Beever Wood Chipper, Part 3: Disc Chippers

Morbark’s smallest disc chipper is the highly portable Eeger Beever 812, which can be towed via ball hitch. (Photo courtesy of Morbark.)

Since 1979, Morbark has been selling and refining Eeger Beever wood and brush chippers in a range of sizes and capacities. The product line offers medium- to heavy-duty drum models and a couple of disc chipper options. Many Eeger Beevers are available as either towable or tracked models powered by gasoline or Tier 4 Final diesel engines.

Recently we offered some advice on picking from among Morbark’s large-capacity drum brush chippers and later on choosing the right Morbark medium-capacity drum brush chippers. Today we’re going to take a look at the company’s disc chipper offerings to help in selecting the right one for your needs.

    Eeger Beever 1418 & 1415

Morbark offers a trio of Eeger Beevers that use a chipping disc instead of a drum. To process limbs of up to 12 inches (305 millimeters) in diameter, the 1418 employs a 37-in. (940-mm) diameter, an angled disc with four dual-edged knives, and replaceable, full-length chip throwing paddles. The manufacturer recommends the 1415 for residential tree services, municipalities, utility line clearing, and rental applications. The pintle-hitch chipper uses a single top feed wheel and the TorqMax drive system to pull limbs into its 14- by 18-in. (356- by 457-mm) throat. The 5,500-pounds (2,495-kilogram) Eeger Beever is available with 70- to 75-horsepower (52.2- to 55.9-kilowatts) gas or diesel engine options from Cat, Isuzu, and PSI.

    Eeger Beever 812

Finally, Morbark’s 812 is notable for its sizable, 28-in (711-mm) chipping disc and a wide, 33.5- by 24.5-in (851- by 622-mm), folding infeed chute. It also stands out from its stablemates with a 2-in (51-mm) ball hitch, meaning that the 2,500-lb (1,134-kg) chipper can be towed by any suitable passenger vehicle or service truck. An electric braking axle is optional. The clutchless 812 makes use of a direct drive system with belt power transfer. Its sole engine option is a 37-HP (27.6-kW) Vanguard EFI gasoline motor. With an 8-in (203.2-mm) chipping capacity, the 812 is at home on golf courses, orchards, pruning crews, and landscaping projects, as well as in rental applications.
